Give Us More Good News Please

Hey guys, did you know that Indonesian people are actually smart?

Yeah, I know, suprising right?

No, I mean it. Aside from the famous people - like Mr. Habibie, our aeronautics expert, or Mr. Anwar, the 4G inventor - which are pretty much known around the world, we also got the young ones coming out on top of the intellectual race and they're pretty much nobody compared to the big shots out there before they managed to came up with something awesome.

Even my friend was one of them, he was one of the inventors for this 'Apparatus and Method for Manufacturing Display Device' thing here that I have no idea what it's about, but I think it would be better if its called 'The Obsidian Relic of Zest' or something.

Recently we got two of our students who managed to get picked for a Summer Student Programme at CERN, the European organization for Nuclear research who operates the world's largest particle physics laboratory, where they would spend several weeks to experience the completely different environment of a world-class laboratory and interact with the high-leveled nerds from around the world.

While most of today's students interact with different kinds of high-leveled nerds

"That's some great news!" you might say, "I bet those kids became what everyone was talking about for weeks!". Well, they did... If you paid attention to the news article, that is. And we all know that most of us only read the columns that we are interested in and skips the rest. To be honest, I wouldn't even know about them if my one (yes, only one) friend didn't post the news on his Facebook timeline.

You know what news that totally beat their popularity? It's the recent incident in which a primary school teacher failed his student homework because according to him, x*y is not the same as y*x, despite having no other variables other than numbers. This has spurred a lot of controversy even among experts. Let me remind you again that this is only a numerical problem. With no other variables. On a primary school level. Thus any form of arguments that claims their difference is not valid.

Yes, the majority of our people are more interested in stupid news like that, unfortunately. It's more or less reflected on our retarded politics that I have sworn not to talk about anymore, like for example, did you know that we just got the right to vote for regional leaders taken away from the people? Even though this is supposed to be a democratic country?

Yeah, I know, suprising right?

And it's not a weird thing apparently, since studies say that we are naturally more interested in bad news compared to good news. It's like how the media prefers to publish discomforting news and focus on the tragic side of the story, to the point of totally making it up just to gain popularity. Of course, this would sometimes cause the good news that are actually worth knowing got drowned under the hype of the news we couldn't care less about, like anything from Kanye West or Kim Kardashian.

Let's hope that I'm not tempted to gain more fame by being impossibly stupid as well, shall we?
